The Chest Centre

Dr. Simone’s main clinical office is in the newly renovated Chest Centre at Michael Garron Hospital in East York. It is an open and well-lit space which is totally accessible.

About Dr. Carmine Simone

Dr. Carmine Simone (He/Him) is a thoracic surgeon at Michael Garron Hospital (MGH) (formerly Toronto East General Hospital) which is located in East York, 15 minutes east of downtown Toronto. He has courtesy staff privileges at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Odette Cancer Centre, Toronto, Ontario and Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie, Ontario.

 

He specializes in all diseases of the chest such as thymoma and other mediastinal tumours, chest wall tumours, lung cancer, esophageal cancer and metastatic cancers to the lung (such as colon cancer and breast cancer). His interests in critical care include postoperative care, infections of the chest and pleural space and prevention of arrhythmias after major surgery.

 

Dr. Carmine Simone is the Vice President, Medical Affairs at MGH. He has held many leadership roles including the Chief of the Department of Surgery at MGH and Co-Program Director for the Surgery Health Service. He also completed his term as the Head of the Division of Critical Care and Medical Director of the Intensive Care Unit at Michael Garron Hospital in 2012. In January 2019 Dr. Simone became the Medical Director of Integrated Programs between Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and MGH. He was the first person to hold this position which enabled the creation of innovative programs across the two hospital sites delivering world-class care to the Toronto North East region - and beyond.

 

MGH is a Level I thoracic surgery center as defined by Cancer Care Ontario (CCO). Along with his surgery partners, Dr. Simone provides round-the-clock back up to a multidisciplinary team that specializes in care of the thoracic surgical patient.

 

The members of the Toronto East Thoracic Surgery Associates - Dr. Carmine Simone, Dr. Negar Ahmadi, Dr. Sayf Gazala and Dr. Najib Safieddine - work very closely with one another to ensure that all patients receive the best thoracic surgical care they deserve.
